Recovery

It's been a while since I updated the blog but Logan, it seems, has recovered from his bout with the dreaded cold sores. He still has some red dots around his mouth where sores were but we're hoping they clear up soon. What a horrible experience for him and for us! He's back to his old self, running around and getting into everything and EATING again. We knew when he wouldn't eat there was a problem.

So on to the next thing. It looks like one of his eye teeth is starting to come in so he's been a little cranky. I don't blame him and it's nothing compared to how miserable he was with the cold sores. We're just shooting him up with Ibuprofin (sp??) and hoping it comes in fast. I suppose the opposite one won't be far behind. He's got most of his teeth now, finally but there are still a few left to come in.

Oh, the front yard looks great! I'll have to take a picture and post it after the new grass starts growing in. They really did a nice job. The deck builder cashed our deposit check and hopefully will start building the new TimberTech deck in a week or so. HOPEFULLY!

That's about it. Take care.

Under the weather

So over the weekend Logan started feeling sick. He wasn't himself, had a fever and was pretty much just lying around, or screaming. We thought he had Hand, Foot Mouth Disease but took him to the doctor and found that he has cold sores. He has a few around his mouth and some IN his mouth. So he's miserable. In turn, WE are miserable. He also may have a tooth coming in to add to the fun. The last few days and nights have been pretty lousy for us. We feel so bad for him and we also feel bad that we're losing so much sleep. I sure hope he gets over this soon. We're not sure how he could get cold sores but he's got them.

There is a little good news though. The landscapers have come!! We've got men scurrying around the front yard, digging and building and soon planting. It's so exciting to things actually happening after 4 months of NOTHING. Still no word on what's going to happen to the crook we originally hired but hopefully justice will be served, and soon!

That's it for now. Dallas has stayed home with Logan for the past 2 days and is about at the end of his rope. You stay at home Moms are amazing. I have nothing but complete respect for you!

Scott, Logan and Aunt Vicki

A picture of us at the beach. You can't tell from his face, but Logan really was having a good time.

Our Myrtle Beach Trip

We left for the airport on Saturday morning, 8/9. We had a connection through Charlotte and everything was just fine. Our flights were on time, our seat assignments were good (we even were able to move up to the bulkhead on the PIT-CLT flight) and best of all, Logan was great! Maybe he likes flying. He fell asleep in Grandma Linda's lap and slept almost the whole way to Charlotte. Now, this of course meant that he was well-rested for the flight to Myrtle Beach but that's a really short flight and, again, he was great. He's very curious about everything and tried to push the lights on and off and he kept calling the flight attendants but there weren't any problems. He even made many new friends with all his smiling and waving to everyone in the airport and on the planes.

The beach was another story. Logan HATED it at first. Our condo was right on the beach (you can see it in the background of the photo) and we took him down to see the ocean that first night. The water was a little bit cool and he almost jumped over Dallas' head trying to get out of it. The next day, he kind of liked the water until a little wave came and tripped him up and he fell. That was the end of any chance of him having fun. We tried to walk up and down the beach and he was OK, I stress OK, but not loving it. So, we went to the pool and he really did love that. We had perfect weather all week except for Wednesday when it rained all day. Up to this point, Logan was just miserable a lot of the time and none of us were having a very good trip. My sister would try to cheer him up and of course Logan LOVED Vicki's niece Morgan. Morgan is 16 years old and very pretty and sweet and Logan just thought she was the greatest but still, he wasn't happy being away from home.

Things started to change on Wednesday (the day it rained). Dallas and I took Logan to a place called Leaps 'n Bounces. It's an indoor play area with large inflatable things for the kids to climb and bounce on. Logan loved it! He likes other kids so it made him happy to be around them and he just had a great time in Toddler Town and the other bouncy things. He really loved going down the big sliding board with me and bouncing around and throwing a basketball into a hoop with Dallas. The only minor incident came when another boy went down the small sliding board ahead of Logan. Prince Logan just didn't think that was cool at all and let us know. But he recovered quickly. All in all it was a really nice morning and it only cost $5.50 for Logan (free for adults). We'd definitely go back there again.

On Thursday, Dallas and I went to the new Hard Rock Amusement Park (it's nice, I recommend it) and Logan stayed at the condo with my Mom, sister, brother-in-law, Morgan and the in-laws. We got back around 4:00 and they reported he had a fantastic day. He played on the beach, went in the water, played in the pool, napped, etc etc. I supposed he recited poetry and drew a sketch of the Mona Lisa too but we weren't privy to that either! We were glad to hear that he, finally, had fun.

Friday was another very good day. We spent the whole afternoon at the beach and everyone, including Logan had a nice time. I wanted to go to the Aquarium but we all agreed that we should enjoy the beach while we could as we can go to the Aquarium at home. They were right.

We flew home on Saturday and Logan was again great on the flights. We connected through Philly (always a treat) and Logan slept the whole trip from Myrtle Beach to Philly. We arrived home that afternoon and you could just tell that Logan was really happy to be home. We all were, actually. It's great to get away but it's always nice to come home too.

So, that's how our vacation went. It was rough at first but ended very very nicely. We're trying to decide where to go next year so stay tuned I guess. Hopefully Logan will be talking by then. I think it will be more fun when he can interact more.

Take care dear reader and we'll talk again soon.

Tuesday, 8/5/08

Nothing major to report today. Logan spent the weekend at his grandparents' house in Oil City. It sounds like he had a great time - he even slept in until 8:30 Sunday morning! That's almost unheard of! His Grammy and Grandpa Smith wear him out. Plus they give him lots of great, homemade food which of course he loves. We're going to send him up there more often to fatten him up.

I'm at my new job now. Things are going fine; slowly but fine. I'm getting used to the 30-minute commute but it's going to take time. It's a lot less than a lot of people have so I need to remember that. :-) Everything is going well for Dallas at the United Way. He's very busy but happy overall.

Logan wasn't really in a great mood yesterday at daycare (aka "school"). I think he just didn't want to be there - he wanted to back at with his grandparents. He was cranky on the way home but after a little nap he was fine again. We're leaving for Myrtle Beach, SC on Saturday morning. My Mom, Dallas, Logan and I are flying on USAirways through Charlotte. We're hoping Logan does as well on this trip as he did on the one to Boston. We're expecting him to love the beach because he already loves water and being outside. I should have some good pictures from the trip when we get back.

We just signed on with another landscaper and this one, hopefully, will actually do the work. He seems very legit and we even went to his nursery over the weekend to pick out plants and trees. The best thing is that he doesn't want any money up front so we won't get shafted again. No word yet on the lawsuit against the crooked guy but it's coming. We're going to try our best to get our money back from him.

We're also trying to get a deck built. We've got another builder coming tomorrow evening. So, HOPEFULLY by my birthday in early October we'll have the outside of the house taken care of. Then we'll be able to concentrate on the inside. Whoever said having a new house isn't a lot of work??

So that's about it for now. Hopefully Logan is having a good day at school today and we'll have a nice night tonight. Our friend Terry Sue is coming over tomorrow night and bringing take-out so that should be fun. We love company so anyone reading this, please come on by! :-) Take care.

All the kids at the one-year reunion

The trick is to give them licorice!

Logan at Fenway Park

Trying AGAIN to start up the blog

OK, so we've been extremely bad at updating Logan's history on the blog. It just seems like there's no time, not even 10 minutes to sit down and type out a few lines. Reading that comment makes it seem so silly that I can't find 10 minutes out of a day to keep a log of my things going on in my son's life. So, I'll try again.

I start my new job with MultiServ tomorrow. I'm excited but still sad to have left Del Monte. You need to deal with what you're given though, and the situation at Del Monte just got to be unacceptable so here we are.

I'm off today so my Mom and I are going to take Logan to the zoo in a few hours. He really enjoyed it the last time he was there so it should be fun. We had a good weekend but wow does Logan have a LOT of energy. I think he gets bored with us - he needs more kids in his homelife I think.

I'm posting a couple of pictures from our reunion trip to Boston a couple weeks ago. It was a great time and we're hoping to be able to see everyone again next year. I really hope we're able to make it an annual thing. Anyway, one is a picture of Logan on our tour of Fenway Park. He didn't fully appreciate where he was but someday he will.

Well, that's about all for now. HOPEFULLY we'll keep up this blog going forward but no promises. :-) Talk to you later.

starting up again

It's been quite a few months since I've posted anything to the blog. This whole time, I kept meaning to write in the journal sitting next to my bed but it just never happened. Oh once or twice I picked it up and wrote a little here and there but nothing like I've wanted to do. There's been SO much going on and we've been TOO busy to write, but I think it's important to try to document everything that's going on these days. In the future, we'll be able to look back and Logan (and his family) will be able to have a nice history lesson.

So, I'll attempt to catch you up, dear reader, on things that have been happening these many months since we returned home with Logan, our pride and joy. Logan is almost 17 months old. He's VERY curious, somewhat mischievious and sure seems to be REALLY intelligent. He's not talking yet but he's babbling all the time and his babbling seems to sound more like words if that makes sense to you. He says "da da" and a few other things like that but I can't say that he's talking... yet.

We put the house up for sale on February 25th and accepted an offer on April 14th. We got almost our asking price.

More later because I have to go to a meeting.
